Attalea cohune
Cohune Palm

A fabulous large palm native to southern Mexico and Central America, where it grows in a variety of habitats. It is a stunning ornamental with a columnar, smooth gray trunk and a dense shuttlecock crown of stiffly ascending, deep green, flat leaves with arching tips. It does well in tropical and frost free subtropical/warm temperate areas. In a garden or park it needs room to develop. Its high yield of quality palm kernel oil could be of some economic interest.
