This beautiful and very rare Beschorneria is found on very steep, rocky slopes in moist, mossy oak forest at high altitude (2000 m / 6600 ft.) in the Mexican states of Oaxaca and Chiapas. It is the only species in this genus that forms an aboveground trunk, which can grow to about 80 cm (30 in.) tall, and holds a crown of broad, elegantly recurving, straplike, glossy green leaves. Mature plants produce a tall, upright inflorescence with small, white flowers. Beschorneria albiflora is virtually unknown in cultivation but should do well in most warm temperate climates.
