Callistemon pallidus (= Melaleuca p.)
An attractive, upright shrub that reaches 3 to 5m in height, native to eastern and southeastern Australia, where it grows on rocky slopes and in the proximity of streams. It holds thin, spreading branches, grayish-green, narrow foliage and lemon-colored, bottlebrush-like flowers, followed by woody fruit capsules with tiny seeds. Callistemon pallidus does well in cultivation and will survive some freezes with appropriate mulching. It is hardy down to USDA Zone 9.
